Functional Rhinoplasty Dallas

functional_nose_jobFunctional rhinoplasty refers to a functional impairment of nasal breathing caused either by how you were born, prior nasal surgery, trauma, or other types of injuries. The reason this type of surgery is still known as “rhinoplasty” is that rhinoplasty means changing the nasal shape, and this surgery must change the nasal shape (usually only the inside of the nose but occasionally the outside too) to help with nasal breathing.

Functional Rhinoplasty Procedure

deviated nasal septum surgeryAs noted in this website, Dr. Lam does not accept insurance for rhinoplasty procedures. If you simply have a deviated nasal septum and nothing more, Dr. Lam encourages you to go to a board-certified otolaryngologist (ENT) surgeon to perform the procedure using insurance to cover the procedural cost. Although Dr. Lam is board-certified in otolaryngology, he does not wish to perform just deviated nasal septum surgery and does not perform sinus surgery. However, oftentimes, the functional problem is much more complicated than the nasal septum and that would require Dr. Lam’s expertise. For example, the nose may be obstructed due to a collapse nostril or a pinched in internal nasal valve (closed angle between the septum and outer cartilage), which in these cases Dr. Lam should be performing the procedure. In particular, if your breathing issue came about following a prior rhinoplasty procedure, then almost definitely Dr. Lam should be the one to help perform your procedure to help with your breathing because the reason for your nasal obstruction would most likely require a rhinoplasty surgeon to perform it. One thing to note is that if you have a deviated nasal septum and you are desirous of performing a cosmetic and/or functional rhinoplasty, Dr. Lam believes that he should perform both procedures for you. He does not charge for the septoplasty component of the procedure but, more importantly, oftentimes prefers to use the septum as a reconstructive graft for the rhinoplasty procedure.

Your Functional Rhinoplasty will be performed by Dr. Lam' surgery center located in Plano, TX.

I had a rhinoplasty with Dr. Lam on November 26th, the day right before Thanksgiving. I don’t know if anything specific really inspired me, I’ve always wanted to have my nose done. Definitely, I am happy with my results so far. I think it’s exactly the way I wanted. You always get kind of nervous doing these things, but the results are just exactly how I would have pictured. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Lam to someone else looking for a rhinoplasty
